What changes when a canvas gets large

Two things fail on cheap large canvases: the frame and the file. We address both. Above 24x36 we build on a reinforced stretcher with a centre brace, because unbraced bars on a wide canvas bow inward over a year or two and the canvas goes slack.

Resolution is the other constraint. A 36x48 needs roughly 3600 × 4800 pixels to hold detail at normal viewing distance. That said, large prints are viewed from further away, so the requirement is more forgiving than the arithmetic suggests — we assess every file individually and tell you before we print rather than after.

Large canvases ship flat in a rigid carton with reinforced corners, not rolled in a tube. A rolled canvas has to be re-stretched at the other end, which is a job for a framing shop.
