Why canvas suits pet photography
Fur is texture, and canvas is a textured surface — the two work together in a way that glossy photo paper does not. A matte canvas softens the harsh edge that flash photography often leaves on a dark coat, and it holds detail in black fur, which is the hardest thing to print well.
The practical challenge with pet photos is usually motion blur rather than resolution. Look at the eyes at full zoom before uploading: if they are sharp, the print will be fine even if the tail is not. If the whole frame is soft, no amount of enlargement will fix it.
Close crops work better than full-body shots. A head-and-shoulders composition at 16x20 has far more presence than a full-length photo of a small dog in a large room.

Can you remove the background?
We print the photo as supplied. If you want a background removed, edit the file before uploading or ask us about a custom order.
Will black fur print as a solid block?
Not on our printer. UVgel ink holds separation in dark tones better than the dye-based systems most online printers use.
Is a phone photo good enough?
For 16x20, almost always. For 24x36 and larger, check that the file is at least 2400 pixels on the short edge.
Can I print a memorial portrait from an old photo?
Yes. Send us the best scan you have and we will advise on the largest size it will support.
