What gallery wrap actually means
Gallery wrap means the printed image continues around the sides of the stretcher bars and is stapled on the back, so no staples or raw canvas are visible from any angle. The result hangs without a frame and sits slightly proud of the wall.
The trade-off is that roughly 1.5 inches of image on each edge ends up on the side of the frame rather than facing forward. We account for this in prepress by checking your composition before printing — if a face, a horizon or text falls inside that margin, we will tell you and suggest the framed option instead.
Stretching is done by hand over kiln-dried solid wood. Machine-stretched canvas from high-volume printers tends to tension unevenly, which shows up months later as a visible ripple across the face.
